For What It’s Worth
Our overall goal with the Tim Webb Workshops is to create a community of photographers here in Kentucky. In reality, the website is the heart of the Workshops, more so than the actual workshop. I know that sounds reversed, but we are approaching the Workshops with the attitude that “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” and this is something that will grow over time. Ultimately, we’re building something that is more than just a monthly 10-hour workshop that can benefit everybody.
When Chris and I designed the Tim Webb Workshops, we had a core audience in mind. The Serious Amateur. We felt like there were plenty of professional workshops available, we wanted reach out to an audience we felt has been neglected.
The Serious Amateur, may be someone with a good day-job, but has no desire to photograph professionally. They have a good camera, but aren’t quite sure how to use that $2,000 camera to its fullest potential. The Serious Amateur may be a new Mom and Dad who have a good point and shoot camera and want to photograph their newborn, but aren’t sure how to use it. The Serious Amateur may also be someone who wants to do professional work on the side, such as opening a small studio and needs business tips on copyright laws and pricing structure. That is our audience.
Top 10 Reasons why $300 Tuition is Worth Your Money
- The main reason that makes these Workshops worth the money is it gives people a chance to interact one-on-one with other photographers, as well as, two guys who do this professionally day-in-day-out. We are completely open to sharing our knowledge and experiences that they have learned over the years, including lighting, camera gear, software, business topics, & digital workflow.
- Each Workshop is designed to be taught in a way that is not intimidating and with an environment that is inviting and approachable for all levels.
- Several hundred dollars of tuition money from each Workshop will be invested in photographic giveaways, such as cameras, camera bags, software, books, and accessories.
- For $300, the participants get full access to the website that is growing into an interactive and educational site with videos, blogs, polls and forums. Workshop participants will have an opportunity to showcase their portfolio in our student gallery section.
- Each workshop will include a destination shoot, at great places like Shaker Village, Keeneland, local horse farms, etc. This gives you a chance to learn and have fun at the same time. All meals, snacks, venue fees, etc., will be covered under the tuition.
- The Workshops are designed to have several hour-long workshops within the all day Workshop. This gives us the opportunity to teach different subjects at a time. Like a magazine, each workshop will have a similar structure, but the content will always change. For example, in our lighting workshops, we may teach about using speed lights as studio lights and then concentrate on available light at the next workshop. Our lighting workshops will include models and demonstrations during the two-hour shoot out.
- There will be two other knowledgeable assistants at each workshop to help answer questions and give one-on-one attention, in addition to Chris and myself.
- Periodically, there will be guest speaks, such as Jeff Rogers, who is speaking at the May 22nd Workshop. In addition to speaking, he will participate in our shoot out.
- Many photographer’s know what they want to do, but just can’t figure out all of the buttons on their camera. We will be teaching a unique one-hour workshop each time, on ISOs, F-Stops, and Shutter Speeds. This will offer a new approach to learning the basics with one-on-one attention to the details. This will refresh people before we even get into the “meat” of the day.
- The Tim Webb Workshops are partners with Murphy’s Camera in Lexington. Murphy’s will be conducting an equipment workshop each time, bringing the latest gidgets, gadgets, cameras and flashes for participants to demonstrate. And best of all, they will be offering discounts to the Workshop participants.
